Maldive Fish also known as Umbalakada, is a specially prepared tuna that is consumed on the Islands of Maldives and Sri Lanka where it is a major ingredient in many curries. It is a specially prepared tuna ready to eat.
It is a type of tuna that is produced by indigenous methods of processing which involves instantly cooking, smoking and Sun Drying to obtain the consumed end product.
Because Maldive Fish are made from tuna, its health benefits are the same as Tuna. It is a low fat high quality protein that is rich in Omega -3 fatty acids. The Omega-3 fatty acids help in preventing irregular heartbeats, which in turn reduces the risks of blood clotting.
